FIRST YEAR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

* APIFRN has successfully brought together 27 agencies to provide family support services.

* Over 2,000 API families participated in case management services, parent education classes, support groups, emergency support and referrals, home visits, drop-in child care and parent/child groups, ESL classes, mental health counseling, immigration and legal services, job readiness and computer training.

* APIFRN funding allowed three agencies serving Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese communities to co-locate in the heart of the Tenderloin community. Since the creation of this joint office, there has been a 50% increase of families utilizing the culturally sensitive family support services now available.

* The APIFRN provided 8 cross training workshops for Network partners including APIPES (parenting education curriculum), domestic violence, substance abuse, and case management skills. This invaluable training, enhancing skills, resources and expertise, led to more effective case planning and referrals among the Partners.

* The APIFRN partners have created child/family friendly environments, provided over 60 parent education workshops/classes in 8 different languages, enhanced program services and improved access to community resources for Asian/Pacific Islander families.



SECOND YEAR ACCOMPLISHMENTS


*During the second year, APIFRN continues to build a strong coalition with the 27 agencies and is working successfully in providing family support services to Asian/Pacific Islander families and communities.

*Over 3,000 children and families participated in case management services, information and referrals, parent education classes and workshops, emergency support and referrals, home visits, drop-in child care and parent/child groups, ESL classes, family and mental health counseling, immigration and legal services, job readiness, computer training, outreach and cultural celebrations.

*The creation of Case Management Team has increased our capacity to provide intensive case mangement services to Chinese, Filipino and Samoan families.

*The APIFRN partners have created child/family friendly environments at each site and continues to provide over 100 parent education workshops and classes in 8 different languages. Improved access for Asian/Pacific Islander families and enhanced services are significant outcomes of this collaboration.

*With APIFRN funding, three agencies serving Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese communities now are co-located in the heart of the Tenderloin community. Since the creation of this joint office, there has been an increase of more than 50% families utilizing the culturally sensitive family support services now available.

*Sixteen of the APIFRN Partner sites are located in five communities that have high numbers of children under the age of 18 living below the poverty level: Tenderloin (49.3%), South of Market (31.9%), Western Addition/Japantown (27.8%), Visitation Valley and Sunnydale (25.1%), and North Beach/Chinatown (25.1%).

*Received from U.S. Congressman Eni Faleomavaega a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition of the outstanding service to Asian and Pacific Islander community.

*Received from the 8th Senate District, Senator Jackie Speier, State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition for its activism in the San Francisco community.
 
*Received from the Speaker pro Tempore, Leland Y. Yee the California State Assembly Certificate of Recognition for its dedication to the A/PI community and its exemplary service to the city of San Francisco.

*Received from the San Francisco’s city mayor Gavin Newsom a proclamation May 5, 2006 to be Asian Pacific Islander Family Resource Network Day.

*Received from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Aaron Peskin the proclamation May 5, 2006 to be Asian Pacific Islander Family Resource Network Day in San Francisco as part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebration.

*Received from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Fiona Ma the proclamation May 5, 2006 to be Asian Pacific Islander Family Resource Network Day in San Francisco as part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebration.

*Received from the Board of Supervisors, City and County of San Francisco the certificate of honor for its commitment to providing community resources for API families and children; and, In acknowledgement and appreciation of its vision to unite communities with the celebration of the APIFRN Day.
