Successful Fund-Raising Events...
March of Dimes Walkathon

APA worked shoulder to shoulder with the March of Dimes raising money for families and children through the annual Walkathon held on April 24, 1999. APA raised $1500 in their first year of participation. At least 10 APA staff members, board members, clients and volunteers participated by raising money, working at the event or doing the walk. Starting at Fort Mason, the six mile walk wound through the Presidio and back to Fort Mason. It was a beautiful day and a good time was had by all. The March of Dimes was grateful for APA's support. APA wants to work with other organizations providing needed services to families and children. We help save babies together!

Past Fund-Raisers
APA has had many fund-raising events since its inception in 1987. Staff and volunteers alike do their best to ensure that every one of these events is a great success. They have organized an Annual Fundraising Dinner, complete with a raffle, and featuring emcees from both KPIX and Sing Tao Chinese Radio; The annual Miss Asian American Pageant offers a warm and exciting evening of activity, showcasing culture, beauty and elegance; Dinner Dances, such as the one held at Fort Mason Officer's Club which featured live music along with a sumptuous meal; a "Chinese Opera Night" which gave a wonderful display of this fascinating culture; and, of course, the annual Christmas Party, which makes toys available to needy children.

The 1998 APA Fundraising Dinner held at New Asia Restaurant was an unprecedented success, raising approximately $50,000. Mayor Willie Brown opened the dinner by praising APA's groundbreaking work. Over 380 people attended the event which celebrated the "Asian American Pioneering Spirit". SF Supervisor Sue Bieman and Judge Julie Tang presented the awards honoring Dr. Thomas Gee, Caryl Ito and Sylvia Mei - Ling Yee. APA also recognized the generous support of four significant donors presenting certificates of appreciation to: McKesson Corporation, Jane Chesson and Philip Cullen and their family, Kaiser Permanente's Richard Cordova, and the Anna Ng Charitable Foundation.

Delighting the audience, Sophia Leung, a nine-year-old prodigy, played three songs on her keyboard. Mark Cheng, a tenor, sang two classic songs, one of which was sung in Italian. Miss Asian American, Quyen Tran and Miss Asian San Francisco, Laura Ngo, assisted APA Vice President Rose Chung in the drawing of tickets. The Grand Prize was a trip to Hong Kongw won by tenor Mark Cheng. The evening's emcee were Channel 26 anchorwoman Mei - Ling Sze and San Francisco Health Commissioner, Dr. Edward Chow. APA would like to thank all benefactors, sponsors, attendees, volunteers, and the staff for their contributions and assistance in this very successful fund-raising event.
