The family support center located in Chinatown provides programs and services
to support the growth and development of all family members - adults,
youth and children.

the homes of at-risk families.

COUNSELING is available to families
or to individual family members.
The API
HOTLINE is a resource to parents and youth in times of stress and
crisis. Trained hotline volunteers can help you in Cambodian, Cantonese,
Laotian, Mandarin, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese.
The APIFRN
is a collaborative network of 27
AGENCIES dedicated to serving the Bay Area Asian Community and its
families.

- BABY
CARE WORKSHOP
Once a week, an APA Health Worker conducts a bilingual workshop for
postpartum mothers at San Francisco General Hospital. Through videos
and demonstrations, the new parents are educated on breast-feeding,
proper infant care, and child rearing practices.
- HIGH RISK
CHILDREN FOLLOW-UP CLINIC
In collaboration with San Francisco General Hospital Pediatric Department,
APA staff provides medical liaison services to Asian children. Home
visitors help families schedule medical appointments, translate for
the families, participate in medical conferences and collaborate with
other medical service providers to address the needs of the families.
- INFORMATION
AND REFERRAL
APA links clients with appropriate services in the community. This service
begins when a client calls or drops-in. APA also refers clients to other
agencies providing culturally sensitive support to Asian families like
parenting education classes, support groups, counseling, child care,
housing or employment training.
- PARENTAL
PSYCHO-SOCIAL ASSESSMENT
An APA social worker is stationed at Chinatown Public Health Center
to provide clinical assessment and case management for pregnant Asian
women to ensure the best possible outcome in the birth of each baby.
The social worker will refer at-risk families to appropriate early intervention
services.
- TRAINING
FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
APA trains service providers in mainstream organizations about Asian
cultures and values to increase cultural awareness. Currently, APA provides
training to Child Protection Services workers in the SF Department of
Human Services, to pediatric interns at San Francisco General Hospital
and to other Bay Area agencies.
